Welcome to the wittle.net Wiki!
In case you haven't already become a Wiki convert, Wiki is an immensely useful lightweight web content management system. The specific version running on wittle.net is MediaWiki, which is the technology tool behind the free Internet encyclopedia known as Wikipedia.
With that introduction out of the way, please feel free to navigate around wittle.net. Here are a few quick links that may help.
- Home Page -- The home page is a slightly customized version of the Apache Jetspeed portal, based on version 1.5.
- Blog -- My Blog (Weblog) is running the Roller web logger, which was recently selected by Sun Microsystems to be their weblogging tool for their public web logs. I used to work with the primary author of this tool, which is quite good.
- Tal Lab -- A page for Tal's lab to use for testing wikid for protocols of interest.
- Menu Test -- A page to test menuing within Wikid

Mac Notes
I switched to the Mac about a month ago, and need to start documenting things about the switch for anyone else who is switching. Check the link above for details.
Stupid HD TV
I have a stupid HD TV (A Panasonic HD TV). You have to change the aspect ratio manually; for example on WRAL 255 (the HD channel for the Duke/Carolina game), I have to manually change the TV aspect ratio (about 8 button clicks) and then manually change the cable box aspect ratio (Standard:4:3/Squeeze). This really sucks because there are 6 resolution choices on the cable box and two on the TV. These settings work only for the HD format channels, the other format requires different settings. Best of all, the TV setting don't survive power off.
Wikipedia
I'm using Wikipedia at work quite a bit for recording information for general use; it is gaining a lot of mind share (along with TWiki) as a general knowledge repository. It much more approachable for building content than traditional content management systems, which is excellent to increase its use and acceptance. It is, however, very easy to build unstructured and difficult to navigate information with this tool, so the extent of its long-term usefulness will be interesting. Of all the web-based tools I've used over the last ten years, this is the one that is the closest I've ever seen to allowing us to achieve the real goal of the web, which in my view is to create an inter-connected network of knowledge where the quality of knowledge is evident from the extent to which it is reference elsewhere. (Please don't ask me now where and how often my site is linked...)
Wittle.net plans
I've got to switch my photo gallery from my own solution to Gallery. Looks like this will be a much better long-term solution to our photo gallery needs, and allow others to add their own family photo albums as well.

Anyway, here are some of the possibly useful things I'm either adding or thinking of adding soon.
