Once in a while, things go your way...

OK, things seemed to be getting better today. Then on 16, something cool happened. I knew I was flirting with getting back under 100. I hit a decent drive on 16, and could see the green from 110 yards out. I picked the 9 iron (since the green is so elevated), and I thought I hit it well. It was heading a bit right of the flag, but seemed good for distance. Then it landed 18 inches short of the green on the slope, and bounced right, where there are two sand traps. I must admit, I was so peeved I threw my club (a small tantrum no one else saw, since I was playing as a single). That calmed me down, and when I got up to the green, I saw it was a good lie between two traps. I carefully planned what I wanted to do, and ended up with the perfect chip-in for birdie. It figures I can do this on a day where I've had 5 3-putts and a 4-putt.

Once again on the Duke course.

Key thoughts are still: Be relaxed! No baseball swings; rotate the torso so your shoulder touches your chin; no wrist action! Your arms should be extended when lining up the drive, and the left shoulder needs to be relaxed.

With the sand wedge, if you're staying back for loft, you need more club head speed.
