Got a new digital camera today
I got a new digital camera today; a Canon PowerShot G6. So far, it seems great! Its auto-focus and exposure settings are much faster than my old Olympus, so it is much easier to get good shots. Its flash doesn't white out the subject anywhere near as badly as the Olympus did either. I bought a 512MB CompactFlash card for it, so it holds literally hundreds of pictures even with 3072x2304 resolution (that's 7 megapixels).
I haven't experimented with its RAW storage mode yet and the inluded software. What that is supposed to do is store the raw CCD device data, and let you adjust white balance and other picture settings before the image is encoded to JPEG and some of its characteristics are lost. That should be quite cool too.
Here's an example picture that I took using the new camera. Amazingly enough, it is actually trimmed from a full-size picture; this is about 40% of the total size.
