Animal Kingdom day at Disney

We started today with a visit to Animal Kingdom. First, we got a FastPass time for the African Safari ride, and then we wandered through a wildlife path where we saw lots of different birds and fish, and a few other animals as well. Then we went on the African Safari, and saw elephants, lions, cheetahs, gazelles, buffalo, warthogs, hippos, and other interesting animals. Then we did the 3d movie “it’s hard to be a bug”. This was really good (but a little scary for the girls). The 3d effects, scents, and things happening in your seat were really cool. We saw some jugglers in the Dino area, after a fairly disappointing trip over there so that Liora could dig up some fossils. She was disappointed that this was basically a big sandbox for small kids; she was hoping to find a fossil to take home. We stopped at the gift shop so she could get two rocks instead, which seemed to help.

After Animal Kingdom, we went home to change for dinner and went to downtown Disney to eat at Portobellos. This dinner was OK; the kids got to paint their own cookie for dessert, and the sangria Tal and I had was nice.

By far the highlight of the day though was the Cirque de Soleil show we saw in the evening. All kinds of acrobats mixed with some clowns; it was stunning. There were two different BMX bike performers, a couple of acrobats in big hoops that did cool stuff, three girls with spindles & strings that were amazing; some ribbon acrobats, trapeze artists, trampoline tumbling, and high wire acts. Truly amazing.
