First eBay experience - mixed reviews

Well, I tried selling stuff on eBay for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I was (am) selling my old PowerBook G4 and a Linksys 802.11g gateway I didn't like. The first disappointment was no bidding on the PowerBook for the first 6 days of the auction. Maybe I should just run auctions for 2-3 days, since no one looks at it until the end anyway. Both ended up selling, and then the real disappointment set in. The winning bidder for the PowerBook never paid, and never responded to attempts to contact her! I had to wait a week to file an unpaid item grievance, and then another 8 days for her to respond before I could re-list for free. During this period, another seller left her feedback for prompt payment on their item, which was also a PowerBook G4.

Careful reading of eBay's unpaid item policy left me distinctly underwhelmed by the consequences of this behavior. The person who did this gets an "unpaid item strike", which appears to be basically meaningless as long as they're continuing to successfully close on some transactions. It seems clear that eBay is designed for the buyer, not the seller. If you're reading this, I'd suggest adding minimepony to your disallowed from bidding list.

On the plus side, the interaction with the buyer who purchased the Linksys gateway was excellent.
